Day-Trips by boat

From the turist port of Santa Maria day-trips by boat are organized to reach some of the most beautiful coves in the east coast of Sardinia.
The Consorzio Marittimo Ogliastra organizes these trips and it offers tours to Cala Mariolu-Is Puligi de Nie, Cala Sisine, Cala Luna and guided visits to the Fig Tree's Cave (Grotta del Fico) and Bue Marino's Cave (Grotte del Bue Marino).

Walking tours and trekking
Don't miss the chance to have a walk across Baunei-Santa Maria mountain.
We suggest you to reach the Golgo by car just to the small church of Saint Peter (on the last Sunday of June a traditional feast takes place in that church). Have a visit also to the chasm called " Su Sterru" and also the area of " As Piscinas" (it means literally "Swimmingpools" which are in fact natural puddles, drinking troughs for animals).
You will surely have also the chance to see some wild animals: dunkies, pigs, sheeps, goats. Be careful: "wild" doesn't mean "without owner"!!

From Golgo you can really enjoy trekking going to Cala Goloritze which was named Italian national monument in 1995.
Arriving at the cove takes around 1h/1h an half. The way back is a bit more difficult because of a steep slope: it takes 1h/1h an half for sporty people or 2h/2h an half for less sporty ones.

Very famous symbols of Cala Goloritze are the arc and Punta Caroddi, very appreciated also by climbers.

Trenino Verde

One more nice chance for your holidays in Oglistra to discover some magic places in that area is the Trenino Verde.
During the Summer there is the possibility to have a day-tour by the small train from Arbatax to Mandas (159km).
If you do not want the whole tour, you can get off at the half way and visit some natural oasis and taste some tipical Sardianian dishes.
